Huntly Common was established in 2020 and is focused solely on the development and retreatment of surface gold tailings deposits for gold production at Huntly Streamside Reserve.
Although not a conventional mining company, Huntly Common has held the mining rights for gold tailings deposits at the Reserve in Huntly, near Bendigo, and seeks to extract this mineral resource sustainably while adding social and economic value by restoring and rehabilitating land, for the amenity of the Greater Bendigo area.
The material is a build-up of residues that have run off from alluvial mining and hard rock tailings dumps in and around Bendigo over a period of more than 100 years of mining – which began amidst the gold rush era of the middle nineteenth century. The profitable extraction of gold delivers four significant community and environmental benefits in alignment with the Reimagining Bendigo Creek Plan: (1) removal of contaminated sands, (2) bioremediation, (3) restoration of cultural heritage, and (4) elimination of flood risk.
The company’s principals have previous experience in the successful processing of gold tailings material in the Bendigo region. They have carried out extensive studies and assessments in Hydrology, Environmental Contamination, Ecology, Cultural Heritage and Mining/Reclamation Engineering.
The company has also retained the following expert consultants on this project:
